Get Greek At El Greco Greek Restaurant in the Grand Place
El Greco is one of the handful of Brussels restaurants lucky enough to face out onto the beautiful Grand Place. Our friend, Jim, loves to eat at El Greco and graciously volunteered to answer our questions about this popular and lively Grand Place restaurant. BBTG: How did you find or hear about this restaurant? Jim: We simply came across it once when we were visiting the country for the first time in the late 1980s. If your readers are looking for it, they should be aware that it has two entrances: one directly on the Grand Place and one on a side street. What kind of food do they serve? Jim: They focus on veal, lamb, and beef, and also offer some sea foods, (no mussels) which is typically Belgian. They servetypical greek vegetables with a Mezzi, offering Large Prawns, Calamari (delicious), and fresh olives and feta. What is the price range? Jim: Currently the prices range from a modest 13 euros for a chicken brochette to 18 euros for a large portion lamb brochette. House beer, wines and soft drinks are modestly priced. One can plan on about 20-25 Euros maximum if you enjoy an entree and add a house wine, coffee and dessert. What are you favorite dishes and why? Jim: As for me, I enjoy generous portions of veal or lamb, so I often order the lamb brochette which has a very mild flavor as far as lamb goes. American tourists might enjoy trying the lamb, which is not often served in USA restaurants. I highly recommend it. They also serve Greek pasta along with generous portions of oven broiled potatoes. Tell me about the service. Jim: Timely, friendly with some ethnic Greek dancing and live music thrown in - a great night of fun and good food at a reasonable price. Describe the atmosphere. Jim: Informal - wear your most relaxing attire, the place is alive with friends laughing and enjoying spending time togetherThe restaurant is "L-shaped" and on one side the entrance is directly from the Grand Place with an outdoor eating area.Quaint - with a fire place in that section . . . also at the end of the meal the waiter offers you an aperitif or drink on the house. Approximately how many times have you been there? Jim: Over 20 years we have eaten there at least 50 times I suppose. Thanks Jim! El Greco is located in the Grand Place near the Aroma Cafe and directly across from the tall Hotel de Ville.
